This is a good way to submit your website provided you know the specific requirements of the individual Search Engines. This could prove to be an intensive work coupled by the fact that Search Engines do change their specific requirements, and you have to keep up with these changes to know what will work and what won't work.

Yahoo

Submission to leading directories like Yahoo, DMOZ, LookSmart, Zeal, GoGuides, Joe Ant and others has to be done manually. These directories require you to choose a catergory for your website listing. You cannot use software to fully automate submission. Yahoo Directory also uses human editors to review, approve and compile submissions. For human edited submissions it could take as long as three months for your website to be indexed.

Yahoo Directory offers two submission options, Yahoo Standard which is free and Yahoo Directory Submit which involves a submission fee. And of course, paid submission ensures quick turnaround time, and your website gets listed quicker if it is approved. Submission to a non-commercial catergory using Yahoo Directory Submit requires a one time payment of USD299. Anyone can use Yahoo Standard to submit for free to a non-commercial catergory. Take care that your website description is not overtly commercial. Avoid marketing language. To be listed in the commercial catergory the yearly fee is USD299.

The Open Directory (DMOZ)
